Selassie Alleyne joins faculty as the Director of Digital Arts and Media Lab
Selassie Alleyne joins our arts department as the Upper School Director of Digital Arts and Media Lab.
A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Alleyene is an interdisciplinary artist who merges filmmaking, digital arts, emerging technology, STEAM, and a love of music and drumming. He comes to Rabun Gap from the Boston Public School District where he taught art, STEAM, and African and Caribbean drumming. He has been teaching digital arts and technology for 16 years. He also worked for Apple for seven years directing technology training programs to all ages including leading film festivals, camps, and coding education. In addition to his work in education, he has also been a professional DJ and performer for the past 18 years and has produced and directed films and commercials for clients including Yelp.com, AT&T, Apple, and Whole Foods. Mr. Alleyene is pursuing his PhD in Arts and Philosophy from the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts. He holds an M.F.A in Filmmaking and Digital Technology from Chatham University and a B.A. in Communications from Boston College. He has also studied at Harvard University’s Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning & Harvard X.
He will assist with after school arts and live on campus. In his spare time, Mr. Alleyene enjoys Tai Chi, hiking, spending time with family, and vegan cooking.
