A Place to Nurture
The Natural Musical Abilities & Skills of Our Students
Rabun Gap’s music program provides a place to nurture and develop the natural musical abilities and skills of our students from Pre-K through graduation. The study of music at Rabun Gap provides an avenue for students to develop skills that will support them in all aspects of their lives. Music education positively affects language development, increases IQ, develops spatial-temporal skills, and improves test scores. Studying music also encourages character development, improves students’ abilities to focus, and builds self-worth.
The music program at Rabun Gap allows students passionate about instrumental music to join the orchestra. Student instrumentalists participate in the pit orchestra for musicals and Cirque productions, as well as perform solos and chamber music throughout the year. Students interested in vocal music may join the Rabun Gap Chorus and/or smaller auditioned groups including the a cappella group, “Gap 8,” or the men’s Barbershop Quartet.

Performance opportunities abound. Student performers are featured in weekly chapels and convocations. Large scale, public performances include the annual Christmas Convocation and Spring Music Concert as well as the MADFest talent show and the musical and cirque productions.

Fostering a Love of Music
Our youngest students begin their journey in the Lower School exploring music through singing, dancing, and our unique children’s string program which provides group classes in violin and cello. -
Developing Skills & Abilities
Middle School music opportunities include choir, handbells, the Middle School musical, and after school band instruction. -
Sharing Music Through Performance
Our Upper School musical program expands skills into production-based learning, with musicals, live concerts, and community events.
In addition to classes and productions, The Rabun Gap Music Department is passionate about community outreach. Students frequently share their musical gifts and talents with local churches, clubs, and nursing homes.
