"Legally Blonde the Musical" wows audiences in Rearden Theater

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School brought the hit movie “Legally Blonde” to the Rearden Stage with “Legally Blonde The Musical” on February 10-12. 

Audiences packed the Rearden Theater for the three evening shows, which featured a cast and crew of more than 60 Upper School students. A live orchestra of Rabun Gap students provided music for the show.  

Based on the hit 2001 movie “Legally Blonde,” this year’s winter musical brought exciting characters, bright costumes, and fun musical numbers to the Rearden Theater. The show followed the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who takes on Harvard Law School and tackles stereotypes, snobbery, and scandal in pursuit of her dreams.

Lucy Barry ’22 of Rabun Gap, GA starred as Elle Woods, and Jeb Bring ’23 of Highlands, NC played love interest Emmet. Other lead cast members included Diane Akpovwa ’22 of Abuja, Nigeria as Paulette, Sam Watts ’22 of Thomasville, GA as Professor Callahan, Dustin Anderson ’22 of Hiwassee, GA as Warner, Cheney Moriarty ’23 of Hong Kong as Vivienne, Katherine Tench ’22 of Clarkesville, GA as Brooke, and Gracie Spoon ’22 as Enid. Rebekah Wu '23 of Franklin, NC, Lexi Burnett ’22 of Franklin, NC, and Sharra Rolle’23 of Roseau, Dominica performed as Elle’s sorority sisters Margot, Serena, and Pilar. More than 30 performers made up the 

The show was directed by Sean Lakey, director of the fine and performing arts department at Rabun Gap. Ghilman Brock served as musical director, Allegra Boggess directed the orchestra, Heidi Spoon was the show’s choreographer, and Naomie Winch was technical director. 

“We were excited to bring a fun, lighthearted show to the Rearden Stage this year. I am incredibly proud of our cast and crew for all of their hard work on ‘Legally Blonde The Musical’,” said Lakey. “Thank you to the community for coming out to support our students and the arts at Rabun Gap.

“Legally Blonde The Musical” was Rabun Gap’s entry into the Georgia High School Musical Theater competition, the Shuler Awards. Award winners will be announced this spring.
