Eagles win Season Opener

Rabun Gap traveled over to Asheville and defeated the Carolina Gladiators by the score of 56-14.  The Eagles opened up a 17-0 early in the first quarter behind Lucas Helmlinger's two rushing TDs and Carter Minnich's 25 yard FG.  Rabun Gap led 45-14 at the half.  The Eagles did most of their damage on the ground as they finished with 174 yards rushing.  The defense held the Gladiators to -8 yards rushing on the night.  Helmlinger finished with 131 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns.  QB Viljami Rautavirta went 8 of 12 for 79 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Garrison Melzer had 5 catches for 47 yards and both touchdowns.  Minnich went 6 for 6 on PATs and 2 for 2 on FGs.  Rabun Gap (1-0) travels to Cannon School in Concord, NC next Friday.
