A Global Perspective

Students at Rabun Gap have the unique opportunity to interact and form lifelong connections with peers from all walks of life. Our diverse and vibrant campus sets us apart from most independent schools in the United States.

With a population that includes students from 50+ countries and 15 states, Rabun Gap is a special place where people come together. We’re empowering a community that embraces our differences and fosters intellectual discovery.

Students in Lower, Middle, and Upper School gain global perspective through cultural education, both in the classroom and by virtue of being a member of the international community that makes up our vibrant student body. It’s all about preparing our graduates for life outside the idyllic mountain community of Rabun Gap, where they will LEAD THE WAY in college and beyond.


At Rabun Gap, we cultivate a unique and harmonious environment that encourages students to flourish.  A fourth-grader spends time with his Reading Buddy from the Bahamas. In an Upper School history class, students from Asia, Europe, The Caribbean, and the mountains of Northeast Georgia discuss the American Revolution. Middle school students have dinner in the dining hall with a faculty member and her family from New York City.

    Rabun Gap is special because of the community and genuine love. I can honestly say that I know people care so much there and want to see students grow and succeed. I also think boarding school brought a special dynamic because friends became sisters and brothers as we were doing life together!

    Because of the diversity at Rabun Gap, I learned how to mingle with others and how important diversity is. I learned how to love others without judging them based on skin color, age or nationality.

    In each section of my class, there are at least five countries represented by students. There are students from near and far in the United States. Among all of them, there is a wide span of political beliefs and personal ideologies. Despite that, we are able to delve into highly sensitive topics regarding race, gender, violence, colonialism, patriotism, and more.

    The diversity of the student body is incredible and really serves to give insight into other backgrounds and cultures. The faculty and staff were great mentors while at the same time they were able to foster real-life relationships with their students.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School is a private, coeducational day and boarding school for grades Pre-K through 12. Centrally located between Atlanta, GA, Greenville, SC, and Asheville, NC, we prepare young people for college, career, and a lifetime of leadership and service.
