Graham Jump ’19 will spend next fall studying in England after being named an English Speaking Union Secondary School Exchange Scholar.
The ESU Exchange Program grants Graham a full scholarship to spend a gap year between high school and college at a British boarding school. Next year, he will attend Rossall School in Fleetwood, England. Graham has already been accepted to Stetson University in Deland, Florida, for the 2019-2020 academic year and plans to major in international business.
“I chose to pursue the ESU Exchange program because, during my time at Rabun Gap, I have met people from all over the world and have witnessed how they experience living in a new country,” he said. “I thought this program would be a great opportunity for me to experience a new culture while also being able to continue studying.”

In addition to the excitement of trying something completely new, Graham said he’s looking forward to spending his school breaks next year traveling around Europe.
Graham is the second student to be named ESU Scholar in the past two years. Edmundo Ortiz ‘18 was named ESU Scholar last year and has spent the last academic year at Eastbourne College in East Sussex, England.
Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School is one of 14 participating American schools in the ESU’s exchange program and is the only Georgia school on the list. The English-Speaking Union is a non-profit educational charity that employs the English language to foster global understanding and goodwill through educational opportunities and cultural exchange programs. According to its website, the Secondary School Exchange program allows scholars to “gain independence, a global outlook, and increased maturity that benefit them at college and in their future careers.”
At Rabun Gap, Graham has been a standout member of the Class of 2019 as evidenced by his service as Vice Head Prefect. He also competed in multiple sports for the Eagles, including basketball, football, tennis, golf, and track.
“We’re so proud of Graham for his selection as our ESU Scholar. This is a once-in-a-lifetime educational opportunity,” said Head of School Dr. Anthony Sgro. “Rabun Gap is proud to be a part of the ESU Exchange Program and offer our students the chance to expand their horizons both academically and culturally.”
