Rabun Gap opens school year with record enrollment

Rabun Gap welcomed its largest student body in school history back to campus Monday, August 22.
It was a record start to the 2016-17 academic year at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School.

Rabun Gap welcomed its largest student body in school history back to campus Monday, August 22. A total 457 students started classes, with 329 in the Upper School and 128 at the Middle School. Both campuses were full of activity on the first day of school.

Rabun Gap also expanded its already diverse community with new students from across the globe. This year’s students come to the Northeast Georgia mountains from 42 different nations. New countries added this year include Anguilla, Croatia, Honduras, Japan, Kazakhstan, Laos, Latvia, Montenegro, Mozambique, Somalia, Spain and Thailand. International students comprise about 28 percent of the student body.

A full 75 percent of students at Rabun Gap are receiving financial aid this year.
"We are very pleased with the number of students seeking a Rabun Gap education,” said Head of School Anthony Sgro. “This year there been an increase in selectivity in every grade. We are also thrilled that we are able to offer financial aid to so many families."
