Joyeuse Chandeleur à tous! Happy Crêpe Day to all!
The French Club celebrated La Chandeleur or Crêpe Day by preparing crêpes for the Upper School campus!
The French Club found a nice way to brighten up a gloomy and gray Groundhog Day at Rabun Gap. Club members worked hard for two days preparing crêpes for everyone on main campus, including US students, US faculty, Administration, Campus & Grounds, Maintenance, Technology, Housekeeping, SAGE, the Health Center, and more! The celebration revolves around La Chandeleur or Crêpe Day in France. Most French households make crêpes on this day. The word Chandeleur comes from "chandelle" (candle) and it symbolizes light. This tradition has a Christian origin as it celebrates the presentation of Jesus to the temple and completes the purification of Mary after childbirth. The crêpes which are round like the sun symbolize Jesus as the Light of the world. Thanks to the French Club for bringing light to a gloomy rainy day!
