Outdoor Club explores Raccoon Mountain Caverns

The outdoor club sponsored a trip to Raccoon Mountain Caverns (Chattanooga, TN) on Friday. Thirteen students from eight different countries joined Ms Gawlik and Mr Phillips for a caving adventure to walk, crawl, and army crawl through the amazing limestone formations for five hours.
The outdoor club sponsored a trip to Raccoon Mountain Caverns (Chattanooga, TN) on Friday. Thirteen students from eight different countries joined Ms Gawlik and Mr Phillips for a caving adventure to walk, crawl, and army crawl through the amazing limestone formations for five hours. Highlights included the Birth Canal, a 100-foot-long small passage with a tight squeeze at the end, the 49 cent squeeze, another tight twisty canal, and the music room where the group turned their headlamps off and listened to a ghost story!  After walking through some shoe-stealing wet clay, they cleaned up got out their sleeping bags for a night in the cavern.  Saturday morning greeted the adventuresome group with their first glimpse of sunshine when they exited the cave for breakfast. While in the area, they also explored Chattanooga with a nice walk across the Tennessee River.
