Songs of Hope concert raises $6K
The Songs of Hope benefit concert on July 26 raised more than $6000 to benefit those fighting cancer.
Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School and Rabun Gap Presbyterian Church held The Songs of Hope Benefit Concert on July 26, raising more than $6,000 for the Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund and Cancer Blows.
Andy Bayles, who plays music at Rabun Gap Presbyterian and is a musical instructor with The Studio at Rabun Gap, introduced the idea to The Studio director Terri Manoogian and enlisted the help of friend Rolando Fernandez, a musician with the Atlanta Chamber Brass, who had shown interest in pulling off a “Cancer Blows” concert.
The concert was held in the Rearden Theater and featured performers from the Atlanta Opera, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and Atlanta Chamber Brass.
"This concert was a huge success for everyone involved and will benefit local and national organizations to provide help to families in need when a cancer diagnosis is made,” said The Studio at Rabun Gap Director Terri Manoogian.
Rev. Don Barber of Rabun Gap-Presbyterian helped in the planning of the concert and also acted as emcee for the event.
“I can not imagine a more wonderful night, incredible music by world-class musicians and vocalists all for the good cause to help fight cancer,” he said.
Rev. Barber and Manoogian presented representatives from the Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund, Milt Gillespie, President and Molly Lima, Client Coordinator, and from the Ryan Anthony Foundation, Andrew and Caitlin Bayles, with a check for the proceeds of the event on August 21.
