Faculty Valentine's Features: Stuart and Alice Jump
Enjoy these faculty couple features as we lead up to Valentine’s Day!
Some of things that make Rabun Gap special are the community here and the value that is placed on family. There are several families who call Rabun Gap home and some spouses who even have the pleasure of calling each other co-workers.
Alice and Stuart Jump, along with their children Natalie ‘19 and Graham ‘19, have called Rabun Gap home for many years. They have been married for 32 years and have worked together for most of that time!
Where did you meet?
Alice: We went to Junior High School together when Stuart moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee. (We did not date but were great friends.)
What drew you to each other?
We had been best of friends for 10+ years and must have liked each others’ company.
Who asked who out on the first date?
Stuart: Didn’t really happen that way. I needed a driver for New Year’s Eve activities and she wanted someone to run a road race with her that night. It ended up turning into “a date.”
What’s it like working with your spouse?
Alice: I don’t know what it’s like to not work with him. Before being married and teaching together in Maine and at Rabun Gap, we work together at Kitty Hawk Kites on the Outer Banks. I sold kites and he taught hang gliding.
Stuart: Normal. We have taught in the same schools for over 30 years now.
